My next class is a Metal Stamping Class that I'll be teaching at It's Vintage Charm in Glendale, AZ on Saturday, November 2 from 10:00am-12:00noon. The cost is $35, and we will be using Metal Alphabet and Number Stamps to make charms from Sheet Metal. Don't you just love the look of these charms, which can be personalized to suit each individual person? The charms can be used in Jewelry, for necklaces, bracelets, or earrings, or in Mixed Media projects like Journals. The Sheet Metal can be cut into almost any shape you like, and you can choose to stamp your favorite words, phrases, or numbers on each piece.
You can stamp names, favorite numbers, short quotations, or words that are especially meaningful to you. The best part of stamping metal, in my opinion, is that you can make the charms so personal. They make wonderful gifts, and you can make as many as you like to hang on a chain or embellish your Mixed Media pieces. Some of the supplies we will use include:
Alphabet Letter and Number Stamps - which can be purchased through suppliers on Etsy, or even at Harbor Freight
Ball Peen Hammer
Shears for Metal - which can be purchased at Dollar Tree for $1
Beads - which we will use to embellish your final pieces.
To be honest, this Metal Stamping technique does take some practice, but once you get the hang of it, I think you will love it and want to stamp metal on a regular basis. The great thing is, that this class is for Beginners on up, so call It's Vintage Charm to sign up right away! I'd love to see you!
I have to share with you about a wonderful Mixed Media Artist that I recently took a class from. Her name is Shawn Petite Andrews, and I first met her a few months ago. She is also a vendor at It's Vintage Charm, and before we were introduced, I saw her Art and immediately loved it! She does some of the most amazing work, and I love that she incorporates words into each piece. I also love to use words in my Jewelry making, especially if the words are inspiring!
I have really been wanting to branch out a little more into the Mixed Media world and learn some Collage techniques, and Shawn helped me to do just that. Plus, this gave me the chance to use some of the other things that I learned in my Art classes in college like Painting and Charcoal drawing. I absolutely LOVED everything about that Shawn taught me. It was fabulous that so many of the materials we used were re-purposed, like torn pieces of wallpaper, scrapbook paper, or even part of an old book. We also used Rubber Stamps with StazOn Ink, numerous types of paint (including regular paint for your walls!) in some beautiful colors. I also learned all about blending colors, and how some of your best tools are your hands. I really enjoyed the entire experience, and now I can't wait to branch out on my own to try some new things!
Here are some pictures of the pieces I made with Shawn.
